Rush University Medical Center wanted an Ambulatory Care Center (New Ambulatory Building) to create a “destination center” for two primary program outpatient departments consisting of Cancer and Neurosciences. Program includes cancer center exam rooms, neuroscience exam rooms, radiation oncology exam rooms, supportive oncology exam room, infusions rooms, phlebotomy stations as well as diagnostic and procedural services, related administrative offices, support spaces and limited retail and concession areas.
The project is located at the west end of the Center Court Garden site, which was formerly used for student housing and situated to the south, and immediately adjacent, of the Eisenhower Expressway and CTA Blue Line rail line and bounded by Ashland Ave., Harrison St., Loomis St. and Congress Pkwy.
The proposed New Ambulatory Building is currently planned at 487,591 GSF, and will be 10 stories tall with a partial basement, a single story bridge link connecting westward over Ashland Avenue to the existing East Bedtower Building, with utility sleeves below Ashland Avenue connecting to the existing tunnel system below the East Bedtower. A proposed precast Garage Structure will be located directly north of the NAB and consist of 6 floors of parking above grade. The parking garage design shall be integrated with a loading dock and materials receiving space connected back to the NAB by access through the parking structure.
